With there being a current shortage on jobs many people are turning to their own natural talents to try and make money. Besides being a great way to earn money it can also be very rewarding to earn money from a hobby you enjoy. One such hobby is sewing and knitting. Here is a look at all the different ways you can earn money from your favorite hobby of sewing and knitting.
To get started you will want to do a few projects of the things you would like to sell. For example if you love to knit and you enjoy doing children’s clothing you could knit some hats and mittens and take them to places such as bazaars and try and sell them. Be sure to take only your best work and try and do a variety of different colors. You can also try and sell them at yard sales or craft sales. You can advertise for your craft or yard sale in the local paper and be sure to mention there will be homemade gifts available. People love items that are not mass produced and have that little bit extra “special care”, making this one of the great hobbies that make money.
Another great place to try and sell your sewing and knitting is at flea markets. On weekends many people enjoy going to different flea markets to try and find crafts and bargains. You can look into investing in a booth for a weekend to test it out at first. Be sure to bring a number of different items for shoppers to look over and be sure to price them fairly. Some popular choices are children’s clothing, hats, bow times as well as anything with a holiday theme to it. If you have a friend that does something similar or who also enjoys sewing or knitting you can split the cost of the booth in half so it does not cost so much to get started.
If you do not have the time to sit at a yard sale, craft sale or flea market see if any local businesses would be willing to either put pictures of your work on display or actual pieces of it. This is a great way to start getting customers aware of your work and then in turn they will tell their friends and families. You may have to pay the business a vary small fee to have your work displayed but if it results in it selling it can be a very wise investment for you to consider if you want this to become one of your hobbies that make money.
Ebay, Amazon or other online auction sites are another great option to consider for selling your homemade goods. Shoppers from all over the world enjoy looking at these web sites for unique, well-made items. It does not cost very much to list your items and you may be surprised at how well they will sell. If you have a price in mind and do not want to let your product go for anything less it is best to remember to set a reserve on the item so you are sure to get your money. This is also beneficial because if people like your products they can leave you positive feedback which will likely bring in more customers.
